LED bulbs are heavy and their glass is fragile, so they often use plastic bulb shells to prevent breakage. Plastic bulb shells need to have high light transmittance, high diffusion, no glare, and no shadows, with a light transmittance of over 90%, and high flame retardancy and impact resistance.
The optical principle of LED lampshades is that light passing through a diffusion layer made of PC/PMMA/PS or similar substrates encounters a medium (diffusing particles) with a different refractive index, resulting in multi-angle, multi-directional refraction, reflection, and scattering, thus achieving a light diffusion effect. Materials have evolved from glass and transparent resin to new materials that emphasize a balance between light transmittance and scattering performance.
LED lamp shells can be categorized by material, including PC, PMMA, PS, glass, and plastic. Plastic lamp shells offer drop protection, a milky white design for glare reduction, and high light transmittance. Lampshades made of materials like PC achieve light diffusion through a diffusion layer, providing a uniform surface light source. In addition, there are patented designs for LED lamp housings that facilitate heat dissipation, as well as intelligent LED optical lamp covers, to meet requirements such as high light transmittance and high diffusion.
